A big shock today as we all learn that Steve Irwin had died earlier today.

It was apparently a sting ray that got him in the chest while he was filming at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia for a documentary.

“He probably died from a cardiac arrest from the injury,” [local diving operator Steve Edmondson] said.

The internet is in shock. Technorati has him as the top search right now, even Slashdot has the story. Juha Saarinen has the Akamai graph for Australia’s news consumption for the day. Wikipedia also updated quickly.
