What’s this on the TVNZ website?

10:44pm · Random Crap

I visited TVNZ.co.nz for the first time in a while and noticed a new tab on the mini TV guide.

mysterytab.png

It actually only shows what is on during prime time from the previous tab you selected. No keyword matches “Freetime” either, so what’s this all about?

Useful ads

10:50pm · Random Crap ·

Recent trips to Digg have displayed interesting Sprint Wireless ads. These have been the only interesting ads in recent times that I’ve actually clicked on and found out a bunch of useful time-saving tips.

Whether or not I care to use them, or remember them, or not is another story though.

  • Microsoft have finally released Windows Live Messenger last week. Shortly after the release, a mysterious newer build came online but was quickly taken off again. Apparently, testing still needed to be done, however the new build contained some interesting new lines to do with the new Yahoo! Instant Messenger integration that is expected to happen soon - the first half of 2006 is almost over.
  • Shortly after the release, Patchou of Messenger Plus! fame released Messenger Plus! Live over the weekend. The most anticipated extension for WLMessenger ripped the website to shreds, leaving those knowing what the direct URL to the download is to download at a nice healthy speed. This is definitely a must-have.
  • Speaking of Microsoft, it has released a lot of developer centric web services. After last weeks announcement of WinFX being .net 3.0, they also launched NetFX3.com, a community oriented portal about all the features, benefits and code samples of all the new .net 3.0 technologies and Windows Vista APIs. Yesterday, Microsoft launched CodePlex.com, a SourceForge copy. You can put up open source or Shared-source projects online for people to work with. Possibly, all future Microsoft open source products will be on here as putting the WiX Toolkit on SourceForge must of made them feel dirty.
  • Some excellent news last week as Comedy Central announced that it will be showing 13 new episodes of Futurama to debut in 2008. This is the third cancelled Fox program to be resurrected. There have been lots of talks this year about the possible comeback, including the possibility of movie deals and Billy West announcing it on a web forum (then later retracting it). DVD sales have apparently helped.
  • Finally, Mike Dansenglio who heads the Security Solutions group at Microsoft called users stupid and that there is no patch for that. As Asa from Mozilla quite rightly puts:

Microsoft and Netscape built some very powerful technology . In just a few short years they brought hundreds of millions of people online. The security nightmare, though, didn’t begin until the leading browser makers left those users to fend for themselves.

  • Fizzled, it was, for this alien communcator. He claimed that the Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 broke up because aliens were pissed off at the Star Wars project (which they apparently though would attack them whenever they were near). The break up of the comet would cause some random, unseen bit to fling off into the Atlantic and cause a massive tsunami that kills many people. He said that this was to happen on May 25th. On May 26th, the site claimed that the US was up to something, on May 28th they posted their dreams online to try and justify it all. Conclusion? Those people are crazy, especially for thinking a dream is real. Watch Eric Julien’s books fizzle out as well (one he is writing, and the other is being translated to English - both on alien communications he’s had). In fact, the closest any of the pieces came to earth was several million miles, and on May 12th.
  • So, the next day that the world would end is on the 6th of June 2006, for the dreaded 666 number. Oh my. Makes me wonder what people living on 6th June 1906 thought. Or even in 1666. Apparently the anti-christ will come and eat all your children (that last part I made up, or is it?).
  • If the world doesn’t come to an end, you’ll be happy (or unhappy) to know that 6/6/06 is National Emo Kid Beatdown Day. If you are not emo, visit the site to make sure your hair style doesn’t match any of those on the site.
  • Watch out if you beat them though. The internet will probably be filled with stuff like this.
  • Lady Punch, while old, is still entertaining. Google Current did a mash up of all the modifications on the video. Animé lady punch? Batman lady punch? Numa numa lady punch? Oh, can’t decide!
  • Finally tonight, I smell a dud. The handbag that has taken the nation by storm, used by Hurricanes player Tana Umanga to smack his team mate back down to earth, has been sold. $22,800 $22,750 after three days, and taking off the highest bid that was fake. Good effort. Now wait and see for that hand bag (and cellphones) value to slide, and the reason why it was so popular go into obscurity. If you missed out, then don’t miss out on buying the piece of carpet Tana stood on while smaking Masoe, the flag that Tana saw while playing the game, a picture of the handbag, or this commemorative t-shirt (that advertises a site that doesn’t exist).

Daylight savings, yay!

9:18pm · Random Crap

It’s a sign when the days get longer and the grass gets greener and the days get hotter as the time passes by.

And then it is confirmed when we have to jump an hour forward to make that sunshine last.

Yes, Daylight Savings Time starts at 2a.m. Sunday morning here in New Zealand. From a kids program yesterday I learnt “Spring forward, Fall back.” Now it is so much clearer!

So, before you get to bed, change your clocks an hour forward. If you depend on computer time or your Telecom mobile you don’t really need to care or worry about this fact.

Finally, the days of continuous rain are nearly behind us (spring is really unpredictable).

A world first

4:04am · Random Crap

Josef had sent me this.

It is the worlds first bottles of Coke with Rapberry flavour, in both normal and diet. And, yes, it is up for auction. In fact, you’ll get two of both types, one will be in a nice case with a plaque, and another will be for you to drink.

New Zealand is apparently the guinea pig.

Hmmmm, coke and raspberry. Too bad I don’t have over $3000, I’ll just wait til 30 May and buy it from the store for $2.50.
