Two good songs

0

Well, yesterday I told you guys two songs that sucked but I couldn’t get out of my head. Today I’ll tell you two songs that are going through my head, but I’m glad that they are.

Wonderful WorldJames Morrison is a new singer on the block, who would probably remind you of James Blunt (and hopefully the music industry learned their lesson with that one). But, this guy is much better. Wonderful World is an awesome song and is well worth the listen to. This album, Undiscovered is definitely one I’m buying when I get the chance.

Wonderful WorldHere It Goes Again is also by a new group called OK Go. They reached fame last year when they personally released a music video to A Million Ways on the internet. It was recorded with a handycam at a cost of only $10, and choreographed by the leads sister. This one is noticeably higher budget (just), but in the same vein.

Two evil songs

0

I have two songs swimming in my head, and they are both terrible. I don’t know why, but they are just… catchy. But then, they are horrible.

FergieliciousFergielicious from Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie is just as bad as her first solo outing, London Bridge. Though, it is arguably a bit more bearable, but only by a hair’s breadth. The music video is terrible. It also took me a while to figure out what will.i.am (from BEP) was trying to spell (it is “delicious”).

Wind it upGwen Stefani has released her first single off her new album The Sweet Escape, Wind It Up. I am not amused. It seems it is written with the help of Pharrell (who must be that voice that randomly says “c’mon” at random places). It is a catchy song (Wind it up!), but is a horrible sounding mish-mash of The Sound of Music samples. Ugh.

So do what Gwen says and “let the beat get under your skin.”

Any songs you guys are finding annoying as hell? Share with the class.

Breakfast on Xtra’s new broadband plans

This morning Breakfast discussed the new Xtra broadband plans with both sides of the coin - Computerworld editor Paul Brislen about how the plans are anti-competitive, and then the General Manager of Telecom Wholesale who was trying to defend the plans.

Once again Paul Henry makes his mark in what was an amusing interview to the GM who kept trying to say how much better the wholesale rates are.

There is also a bit of talk about the Annette Presley and ex-husband fiasco of last week with Paul Brislen.

New Zealands first Boyband

Radio station The Edge decided that it was time for New Zealand to have its own Boyband. They held a competition to get the boyband steriotypes - Hot Boy; Bad Boy; Fat Boy; Mummy Boy; and Gay Boy. They gave them a single and now massively promoting it to get to number one (which it no doubt will).

BoybandAnd here it is. The single is the cover of The Kinks You Really Got Me. It is pretty terrible too. Hot Boy and Bad Boy seem to be the only ones with any redeeming singing talent, whereas the others (especially Gay Boy and Mommy Boy) sound like whiny teens.

Find out more about Boyband here.

Scissor SistersOnce again the Scissor Sisters are about ready to infect the world with their music. They have already released a video for their first single I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ off their new album Ta-da!.

Since watching and listening to it yesterday, I couldn’t get it out of my head, so I thought I’d share so you experience the same. The album is released next month.

annette-about-now.jpgOn Monday, Slingshot owner and CEO Annette Presley went on TV One’s About Now. She was certainly a hoot, and one of the more entertaining guests on Mark Sainsbury’s show.

While this video is very mean, it is very hilarious.

Idiot playground video calls for stupid moves

12:05am · Current Events · Tech · ·

Even the “intelligent” people are so stupid sometimes. Recent news reports are that a video has appeared on YouTube which shows these kids go on a round-a-bout and spin it round using a motorbike. The kids that do this thought it’d be great to put it online on YouTube.

Then the news agencies picked it up.

idiots.jpgI saw tonights TV3 report (which was really UK’s ITV report) and they had this guy saying how the internet should be regulated by the government and that it is the fault of the ISPs. Clearly a moron, but more on that later.

I like to point out how they jump around the real issue here - why were these kids doing this at the playground? Where are the parents or supervisors? Clearly these kids were idiots! What were they thinking in the first place? They deserved to have been thrown off that roundabout for being such dolts in doing it.

Back to the moron, he clearly doesn’t know how the internet works. I cannot be bothered explaining it, I’m sure my blog audience is more intelligent than he is.

  • The ISPs only see the bits and bytes that go through. It isn’t like they are going to trawl through the internet, inspecting every file we ever send and receive.
  • The internet cannot be regulated by a single government. How can it? It is international. What one government will put into law, won’t affect the rest of the world. That’s why all that net neutrality stuff is not going to work. At all. It is once again America thinking that it controls the world. But wait, it doesn’t.

Any kid that copies this stunt clearly is an idiot in the first place and should seek medical help.

Also in the ITV report, they said how they reported earlier on kids recording school ground fights and putting them on the internet. Big whoop! Kids fight on the playground all the time! It’s a fact of life! Get used to it!

They are so worried about kids copying this stuff. So, here’s a guide: how bout you watch your kids on the computer? Eh? Limit their time on the internet? What? Do you need a book written out for you? How about you learn to use Google for a change?

And that is my rant for the day. Seeing idiots do this, then watching everyone else who had no cause for blame get blamed, real riled me up tonight. What happened to personal responsibility?
